Job Security

Bit of a personal post but thought it'd be relevant with the problem of job losses and zero hour contract. I have been in a part-time position in a very large retail company (not saying which one) for about a year and 3 months and yet I am still a temporary member of staff. Given that the industry is suffering badly, it seems that temporary contracts and staff are just things that can be used rather than invested in. This clearly shows that people are being used as a one off experiment to see if they can increase their profits and if not then, unlucky there's your income gone. Some people may say, well if they've done badly then aren't you in some blame and therefore should get the boot. In response I say that no one worker in a large business is itself the firm and its losses cannot be blamed on one individual. Anyway as it edges closer and closer to the end date of the contract it seems to me that this time it will not be extended and my hope of funding a post graduate degree would gradually fade away (as I am a student.) The statement that I make is that this simply doesn't seem fair that how much labour and profit that has been extracted out of myself and so many employee's around the country, yet we don't know whether our job is secure until we go in and see our stuff pre-packed. Is it that those working at the lower levels of the business cannot be granted any sort of job security whereas those in higher positions have greater job security, if they both do their role to the best of their ability shouldn't they be treated equally?
